Team Mission Statement

The Kane County Office of Emergency Management's Search & Rescue team is a State of Illinois trained group able to assist in the location and return of missing or distressed persons.


Team Profile

The Kane County Office of Emergency Management Search & Rescue team was formed in 2001 by a group of volunteers dedicated to helping their communities in the area of ground search and rescue. The team consists of members of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management with a wide range of abilities and expertise.

Qualifications

Members of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management's Search & Rescue team are trained in crime scene preservation, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), helicopter operations, search management operations. The team responds to any manmade or natural disaster rescue within the boundaries of Kane County, mutual aid requests by other municipalities, and can be requested by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency's Emergency Operations Center to respond to any Search & Rescue operation within northern Illinois.

The team also responds to, but is not limited to:

  • Reports of Lost or Missing Children
  • Walk-Away Elderly Persons
  • Missing Suicidal Subjects, Unarmed
  • Death Investigations
  • Any Other Missing Person Incident Where A Coordinated Search Effort Is Desirable

The Search & Rescue team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. They are dispatched by the Kane County Emergency 911 Center by calling (630) 232 - 8400 or (630) 208-8911.

The Kane County Office of Emergency Management Search & Rescue team is supported by a one-ton enclosed utility truck, K72. K72 carries the required equipment to complete the mission. It is also a mini-mobile command vehicle equipped with a mobile radio repeater to extend radio coverage in the required search area, improving the communication between Search Command and Ground Search Units.
